And by the way, I know many of you are so sweet that you do not want to give unsolicited advice so I am soliciting...any tips for snacks, treats, etc with the gestational diabetes would be fantastic! I am still trying to figure it all out and not completely starve myself. So let me know what worked for you! I love the ones you already have given me! I think I just may go get myself a Dilly Bar now for my evening snack! :-)
PS...yes I will post a picture of baby's room when it is finished. :-)

It's been a few years since my last daughter was born, so I don't know if the GD diet has changed...But, my favorite snack at night was a glass of milk and three graham cracker squares.(One whole one and a half)
Bread with peanut butter and a V-8 were also yummy!
toasted peanutbutter sandwich was always good to me with a big glass of milk.I don't know if you can have that or not I've never had diabetes during pregnancy.marshmellows I think are fine but you may have to check this stuff out.praying for you a healthy pregnancy...and baby girl! I've had 4 girls, miscarried twins, a son and another sweet baby girl last year but she went to be with JESUS.I can't have anymore children do to heavy bleeding after c-section I lost my uterus but GOD is good in the good times and GOD is good in the bad times even though I can't see it sometimes.
I had GD when I was pregnant with Gage and my favorite snack in the evening was triscuits and peanut butter because you can have a lot. I think I could have 12 triscuits! Good Luck! Mary
I had GD with my 3rd and final pregnancy. A small apple and peanut butter is a great snack. I also LOVED graham crackers and Peanut butter. I'm not a peanut butter freak, I promise but they both worked. I also was forced to find some new vegetables to eat and it was a neat thing to be forced to learn. I'm not sure how much artificial sweetner you can have being pregnant, it has been a while since I did that, but the sugar free Jell-o pudding cups are GREAT as are some snacks made by Kozy Kabin (in the refrigerated section of the grocery). Just an FYI..I continued to watch my diet and managed to keep diabetes away for 10 years. I have Type 2 now and it isn't that bad to deal with. I stayed with the diet, for the most part, after my son was born. I guess it paid off.
Hey Kristy,
Corky has diabetes but is fairly controlled by diet if he doesn't fudge on candy. In the diabetic section of most stores and pharmacys are Glucerna Bars in different flavors. They are chocolate coated and taste almost as decadent as a candy bar. Made specifically for diabetics. I love them. And just think "whole grains" and wheat are better than white anything. You will do fine.
Love and Hugs, Laurie
If you crave crunchy = Almonds! very satisfying.
If you want sweet = No sugar added popsicles.
If you want creamy = Avocado salad.
peanut butter crackers are good for diabetes... filling, too.
I ate a lot of peanut butter and graham crackers too! I kind of found what worked for me and ate the same things for the 11 weeks-kind of boring but easy. I also ate a lot of salad. I love croutons and remember that I could have one cup of croutons on my salad...I think that was only one carb. You might need to check that out though!!! Then I would eat a half of sandwich and some milk. The Dilly Bar is my best tip though! I do love my sweets!! I am praying for you! Love, Laurie
I also had GD with my last pregnancy. I controlled it through diet and only had to deal with it for about 6 weeks because I delivered them at 34 weeks (triplets). Some of my favorite snacks were cheese and pepperoni, carrots and dip, vegetable flavored crackers with some cream cheese, fruit smoothies if you make them with lowfat milk or yogurt the sugar isn't too high. I also tried to eat protein everytime I had a carb becasue that helps your body absorb and digest the sugar better. I remember the days of checking my sugar 4 times a day. If I think of any other good snacks I'll be sure to poast again. Hope that helps... karen

Have a Jamocha shake from Arby's :) HAHAHAHAHAHA. Thanks to YOU for the FB status the other day, I finally took the plunge and got one for the hubs and I tonight!
I don't have any advice for the GD but I hope the others can give you lots of tips and help! I can't wait to see the baby's room!
don't have any ideas on GD foods BUT i can not wait to see the nursery pics.!!!
I'm 2 1/2 months along with my 5th pregnancy and have GD with all of them...
pickle roll ups ROCK (pickle, cream cheese and ham/roast beef/corned beef
low carb tortillas (they taste really really good!!) with cheese and salsa are great too!
BLT's are a great dinner
Salads with loads of hard boiled eggs and meat are awesome!!
Russel Stover has low carb candy that is super great too! The thin mints are WAY better than regular thin mints!!!
buy a loaf of low carb italian bread (I'm forgetting the brand). It tastes EXACTLY the same as regular white bread - not as "glue like" - and make some tuna salad to go on it... or ANY sandwich with low carb bread is great too!
grill a bunch of chicken breasts and use them for a variety of things Fresh off the grill they ROCK with a lettuce salad, some shredded cheese and lots of salsa...
Hi Kristy,
I had GD with all three of my babies. I survived on suger free dark chocolate JELLO pudding cups. Boiled peanuts were another staple for me. I tried to stay away from juice and "white" starches. Praying for you!
I don't know if it has any less sugar, but I know a "healthy" cake that my friend makes for her little boy with diabeties. A box cake mix (any flavor), 1 can of diet drink, and whipped topping.
You just pour the cake mix in a bowl and skip all of the ingredients on the box. Mix with 1regular sized can of diet drink. (If you use chocolate cake use diet dr. pepper, or diet coke.. if you use yellow cake or white cake mix use diet mt. dew or diet sprite)
Once mixed, bake it and top with whipped topping. It really is pretty good!
Also, you can always put whipped topping in the freezer and eat it like ice cream! =)
My husband has a great recipe for "diet" peanut butter pie (made with low/no sugar anything & natural peanut butter) if you are interested, please let me know!
To make snacking/eating easier, just make sure that you eat some source of protein with every carb. The fat/protein takes longer to digest which in turn makes the "sugar/starch" take longer to digest. It's all about glycemic index, too! For instance, if you want fresh fruit have a serving of nuts. Other good ideas: cottage cheese and fruit, crackers with peanut/almond/cashew butter, veggies and hummus, etc. Best wishes!
Katie
an 8-pack nugget from chick-fil-a only has 10 carbs - add a side salad and you can have a decent, filling meal for under 15 carbs!
I had GD with my last 2 pregnancies and liked almonds, and pecans, fiber one bars for snacks. I ate Amy's frozen burritos and south beach pizza's for lunches at work. In the evening I would often have some kind of ice cream bar- there are low sugar klondike bars and blue bunny makes a lot of interesting low sugar ice cream treats. They are a little pricey but at the end of a long day of being good it was nice to have something sweet. I also would occaisionally have piece of sugar free chocolate. My favorite were the dove brand, but hersheys and reaces cups were also good. Just like the ice cream these product still have carbs you have to count. They contain sugar alcohol which is fine in pregnancy, its not very absorbable, but start off easy because it can have a laxitive effect if you eat to much. I also enjoyed drinking crystal light. My OB was fine with artificial sweeteners. Good luck you'll be past it all soon and enjoying your little girl and what ever you want to eat. Thanks for sharing your life.

So sorry to hear you have GD. I had it with 2 of my 4 pregnancies and coming up with things to eat is the hardest part. Sounds like you already got great ideas, but I'll add a few too. I love cottage cheese on ritz crackers (just have to watch how many crackers you eat), and sugar free frozen yogurt w/ a fruit mixed in, peanut M&M's when the sugar craving was out of control, and lots of microwavable bacon for mornings when I was starving but couldn't have anything but protein. We grilled LOTS of chicken for dinner and ate a lot of salads. After I delivered my 1st baby my mom came the hospital with a big batch of chocolate chip cookies. Nothing has tasted better in my life! :)
I developed GD very early in my pregnancy with Katie (now 5½), and was insulin dependent by the 9th week. I kept the levels really good by cutting out sugar and white flour.
One of the things that really helped me a lot was that I love gazpacho. I would fill up on that and just supplement with small meals.
One of the things I missed and craved most was pizza. I started making my own using whole wheat tortillas for the crust. I also controlled my cravings for sweets by making oven-baked sweet potato chips, which satisfied my craving for crunchy snacks as well.
