A Little Update

Well Good Morning! I just had to take a moment to update you all a little. Last night after I posted, we put the boys to bed and I went in to take a shower. After a little Mandisa/TobyMac/Overflow/Leeland (it was a long shower) therapy I was feeling a little better. I could honestly feel the prayer that was being poured out onto our family and peace was beginning to wash over my weary self. I then painted my toenails, because come on, that has to make you feel a little more cheery, and picked up my daily devotional.

God never ceases to amaze me.

My verse for yesterday was "I have begun to deliver...Now begin to conquer and possess." from Deuteronomy 2:31

The devotional goes on to talk about the idea that sometimes God does call us to wait. Then sometimes he calls us to step out. To act in faith. We miss out on blessings if we continue to wait in fear. He calls us to boldly step out and claim the blessings that are ours. The words in that book I am certain were written for me in this moment. :-)

Once I emerged after pampering myself just a little my boys were sleeping peacefully and my husband was waiting for me. We sat on our bed and talked about what was going through our heads and it was just so great to hear that he too was stressed and thinking about the ultrasound. We talked it out and then he prayed over our family, and there is just something so calming about a husband praying over his family. My heart was put at peace.

We then slept. Benjamin did wake up at 11:30 and we brought him in with us. We all slept all night long (albeit with a foot in my back and one in my ribs). Ben seems to be doing a bit better this morning. I think the sleep did wonders for him. He is now complaining of ear pain, which the doctor said might happen. He said he thought he may also have an ear infection, but the antibiotic he is on should knock it ALL out! (getting him to take the medicine is a different story...it is Augmentin and it is yucky. He fights me with every dose. If you have any suggestions for this I would love to hear them)

So anyway, I just wanted to let you all know that your prayer IS making a difference. We feel your prayers like a cozy blanket and are looking forward to getting another peek at our newest family member later. We will keep you posted.

See if your pharmacy can put flavoring in it. I think CVS does it. If not see if there is a Compounding Pharmacy near you they have all kinds of flavors due to the fact they make their meds. You could also try putting it in apple sauce or juice. Just be sure he eats or drinks it all.

Continuing to pray that this is just a little sneak preview into a wonderful and peace filled day ahead for you all. I love you Kristy and am so glad you pampered yourself. We girls all need to remember to do this don't we? Gods blessings over your ultra sound this afternoon.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

Kristy,
We must use the same devotional book...Streams in the Desert. Don't you love how God uses such as this to present a much needed lesson...as well as reiterate a lesson?
I'm praying for you today as you go for your appointment at 4:00.
Can't wait to hear...

Love,
Susie

Hey Kristy... I don't know if you would remember, but about a year ago when you were waiting for "Happy", I left a comment about how we had an Asher who's name meant happy and that we were praying for you and your family. I have kept up with you all ever since, and just wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you and praying for sweet #5 today.
Love and Prayers,
Mom of an Asher in NC

I'm so glad you got some rest and have been feeling the prayers. Continued prayers to you and your entire family.

As for the medicine...wish I had some tricks, but most of the kids at my hospital have feeding tubes for theirs and I'm sure he wouldn't like that (and if he wasn't two you could tell him that is always an option!) Good luck with that!

Take care,
Amanda

Hey Kristy,

The girls and I said prayers for you as we drove to school today. Their little voices saying "God Bless Kristy and the baby" made my eyes water.

A medicine trick that may or may not work... Bribery! Take a sip... then a bite if his favorite treat ever. Another sip...another bite.

The sips instead of the whole dose at once seems to work.

OR - try putting a straw in the little medicine cup, sometimes they taste it a little less that way.

Still praying down here!! Be strong, and remember to breathe!! All is well, there have been NO indications to date that there is ANYTHING to worry about! I can't wait to hear the good news soon!!
Isn't it amazing what a good shower and a little nail polish can do for your sanity??
All our love(and prayers)

Try giving him a few chocolate chips along with the medicine. In addition to being a good "incentive", it also pretty much neutralizes the bad taste. Our pediatrician recommended it and it seemed to really work well for our son. Good Luck!

For those nasty liquid medicines I used to put the dropper way in the back of their mouth, along their cheek. Then when I squirted it, it was already in the back and they couldn't spit it out.

Rootbeer for the medicine. It doesn't hurt the anitbiotic and it hides the taste of the anitbiotic completely! I used to pour some of the antibiotic in the medicine spoon, pour some rootbeer to top it off. Even did it with the same antibiotic that your son is on. Our physician and pharmacist both recommended rootbeer.

Try mixing his medicine with Hershey's chocolate syrup. It really covers A LOT of that yucky taste! :)

Looking forward to your update tonight! You know we're prayin'...

My kids fight me tooth and nail on the augmentin! I have had our pahrmacy (Wal-Mart) put flavoring in it as well but they can still taste the yuck :P Try diluting it with some water or juice and make sure he drinks it all. I have tried many tricks and the kids always figure it out.
