Prayers Please

UPDATE

Hope had a good night as did Ben. Thank you for your prayers. I do not think we are dealing with croup here. I have a feeling that Hope's raspy voice has to do with her Reflux. I am calling her doctor to talk about her medication. It seems to wear off before the next dose is due. I would hate to up her dose, but also don't want her to damage her esophagus. Please pray for her, for her doctor and our finances as Prevacid is NOT cheap! :-) We know God will provide and care for us!

Okay...I have to go...a little red haired boy in a John Deere Tshirt and Dinosaur necktie is feeling better and ready to wrestle his big brother on my bed! AAHHH!

Hello everyone. I am sorry I am slacking on the Ben posts...they are coming I swear. I am writing to ask for prayer for my kiddos. Ben isn't feeling well and Hope is not either. I woke up this morning and noticed that Hope's cry sounded a bit hoarse (which I have been told is a warning sign of airway constriction due to EB) so I panicked. We were of course out of town but I did call the FANTASTIC EB nurse and she listened to Hope's cry. She said that she still had a pretty healthy cry and it just sounded like a cold or croup, or that she possibly had a blister in her throat.

As it turns out we have been exposed to the Croup virus a few times in the past few weeks which scares me. The possibility of a blister also scares me. I was told that airway involvement with Hope's type of EB would be really rare, but um well, we seem to hit every RARE bump in the road.

She seems a bit congested, as does Ben and we are all exhausted from a fun overnight trip to see some friends and go to the zoo. I am hoping after a good night of rest everyone is on the road to recovery.

Will you please pray for Ben and Hope. This EB thing is so unpredictable and scary. She is still doing AWESOME, no blistering and eating like a champ. Those are good signs and I more thankful than I can convey for the amazing things the Lord is doing in our family. My mommy's heart just tends to get scared even with little things with Hope. I would appreciate your love and prayers.

Kristy--

My son caught Croup earlier this year shortly after he started on the road to recovery from Pertussis. If you think it might be Croup--a good precautionary measure tonight may be to stick a cool mist humidifier in her room while she sleeps. It won't cause any harm if it's not Croup, and might make her feel better in the morning.

As a mother of 5 you probably already know that, but thought I'd share with you in case not. Will be saying extra prayers tonight for her and Ben to be on the road to recovery.

I'm praying. I totally understand the concerns of a mommy's heart. I'll also be praying for calm and God's peace that passes understanding for your mommy heart.

I think when it comes to our kids all Mommy's feel a bit of panic. I was on panic overload last week when I heard my Yvette (and she is almost 23 years old) had a seizure after 6 years free of them... alone while I was out of town. Talk about putting fear in a Mom. A grand mal seizure lasting longer than 60 minutes and still raging after enough valium to take a horse down... any activity of that sort strikes fear to my very core. I will keep your Ben & Hope in my thoughts and prayers.

Kristy,

As a fellow mom who has a kiddo on Prevacid, why don't you ask your ped or a GI doctor if you are seeing if its possible to get samples. My peanut has been on prevacid for almost 5 months now and I haven't had to purchase it yet! Samples have saved us!!! If I can more samples from our GI doctor I will send them to you if you would like! Please just let me know! I would understand being a bit weary of a stranger sending you medicine, but I will if would like!

You may want to talk to Val! Her second son had reflux so bad that it was harming his esophagus, so she's been through it before.

Praying for them both! Reflux is so worrisome! Delaney was diagnosed with failure to thrive, mainly because of reflux. It's just a matter of finding the right medication for YOUR particular baby. I am praying that Hope feels better soon!

I have fostered many reflux babies and sometimes we use something to thicken the formula( thicken up or simply thick).....she may be aspirating when she refluxes.Maybe ask the doctor about it ?

Try not to worry about upping the Prevacid dose, Alex is on the highest dose that is possible, and all its done is helped. Not a big deal at all.
Its so hard when you know all the possibilities, and all you can do is wonder!

My friend’s son was diagnosed with reflux as a newborn. They worked with a Chiropractor with much success on eliminating the need for meds. Check out her very first post on her blog at www.lifeissweetinkerrville@blogspot.com.

I don't know if I have mentined it before, but I highly reccomend taking her to a chiropractor. All of my kids went from the hospital to the chiro and then home. Birth is hard on their little bodies and she could have one spot off in her neck that is causing her reflux. Most of them are Christians, mine is. Great resource is www.activator.com and look for a advanced proficiency doctor in your area. We continue to pray for Hope and that she doesn't get any blisters and her reflux gets better!
