Adventures in Potty Training

Ok, so I didn't share this last week but as I think about the hilarity of the situation. It is a story too good not to share.

So, Ben is just over two and MY goal is to get him out of diapers before the next Bolte arrives. So a day last week I decided, this is it, we are going to put undies on. So I let him choose from the cool new underwear I had gotten him. He chose a Diego pair. He was psyched. So we talked about it all and how he needed to pee in the potty, NOT in his undies. He nodded, (This is actually something he does understand, he does it when he wants to). So I put the focus on having dry undies....

About ten minutes later I was standing in the kitchen and Ben came out grinning from ear to ear. "Mommy, I peed!" he exclaims! This sparked my curiosity because I was in direct line of sight of the potty and he DID NOT use it. So, I checked his undies, Diego was dry! YAY! So I said, ok, Ben where did you pee? "I show you" he responds. So I follow him into his bedroom. Do keep in mind we have ALL wood floors so I knew clean up wouldn't be a nightmare. That is until he leads me into his closet! Yes, his closet! I look and I don't see a puddle anywhere. Then, I saw it. He was pointing to his Little People tractor. There in the wagon it was. My son had pulled his undies down, aimed and filled his tractor wagon with pee! :-)

I could not help but laugh. He was so proud. I have no idea what led him to believe it was a good idea to pee in his wagon, but he sure did. So we talked about the fact that pee belongs in the potty and we walked the tractor and wagon to the potty to empty it and then placed it in the bathroom sink so I could disinfect it. I could see he was disappointed that I was not as enthusiastic about his accomplishment. He proceeded to ask for his diaper back. Ugh, maybe another day. He sure is a one of a kind!

Though I must admit I am encouraged by his accomplishment. He gets it, and if he can aim into a little three inch by three inch wagon, he is ahead of his dad and brother! :-)

I wish that my son's aim in the potty was as good as his aim elsewhere also. Good luck with the training. The stories are great that we get. And then when we get to use them when they are older!

PLEEEEEAAASE keep us informed on potty training! I need all the help I can get. My 3 year old son does not get it at all. He doesn't alarm the authorities if he pees all over, and does not care about any bribe I attempt to give him. HELP!!!! I'm quite impressed with your little man... and you too!

That is SO SO SO funny! Of course I've never attempted potty training myself, but that is definitely a story that is good to have documentation...you know, to use at some later date when he is much older :o)

Take care,
Amanda

Great story for the baby book! Thanks for sharing it with us! I was laughing so hard! Especially when you said that he was better at his aim than his brother and dad! I can totally relate! Hope the rest of the training goes well!

I am CRACKING up. LOL. That's too funny.

Much more funny than 2 preschoolers that peed on their bedroom carpet and then covered it up with an ABC poster to hide it...all because they were supposed to be napping and did not want to go to the bathroom with out mommy taking them.

Um....yea. Funny how they never have a problem escaping their room any other time......

HAHA that's awesome! Cute story! One of these days he'll decide that it's way better to go in the potty and that will be it.

That is hysterical... I think the part that gets me most is the visual I get of you, him AND the tractor/trailer traveling to the potty chair. Such a funny picture I must say.

Way to go mom for pressing in and KNOWING this can be done!

Oh, Kristy, that is hilarious! I thought I had some good PT stories, but that one beats all mine. :)
I love that you could laugh at this. Isn't it interesting having grieving and parenting going on at the same time?
What would we do without our precious ones on earth? :)
Love and {hugs},
Michelle

That is hilarious! My little Ben will be 3 in Feb and kows when he has to potty but refuses to go in the potty. We bought Spidey underware and everything, but he just stops and goes in his pants and then tells you he needs dry undies. Ocassionally, he will tell you he needs to go and then doesn't go when put on the pot. Someday they will get it. Here's to potty training the toddlers!!!

P.S. I pray for baby Bolte #5 daily.
