Hope Amelia Bolte

I am sorry it has taken me so long to update, it has been a whirlwind of a few days, but sweet Hope Amelia Bolte was born Monday June 1 at 2:22 pm. She was 6 lb and 13 ounces and is just beautiful. I will share pictures and stories of the day soon.

For now friends, I am coming to you again with a heart broken and full of fear. Her apgar scores after birth were 9 and 9. She is doing great, but it seems that she has developed some nasty blisters anywhere friction has happened on her skin, where her hospital bands were, where bandaids and tape have been her skin blisters and then is just raw. Her brother Isaac had these blisters and ultimately could not even be touched because he would blister.

We do not know anything yet and we are headed to see a specialist in Pittsburgh tomorrow. Please pray for our new girl. My heart aches to think she is in pain and my body is still broken from surgery, though I was discharged a day early and will be traveling to Pittsburgh tomorrow. We are exhausted and trying to recover and enjoy her all the while fighting the fear that something is once again wrong.

I am just reminding myself that God is indeed in control, that none of this is a surprise to Him and that he has good plans for our sweet Hope!

I am praying for you and your family from Toronto, Ontario. I wanted to let you know that it sounds as though your daughter has Epidermolysis bullosa, it is a condition where blisters form on the skin from even the slightest touch. Jonah Williams has the condition and you can read about it on his blog...williamsfamilyblog...patriceandmattwilliams,blogspot.com hope this helps..Praying for baby Hope!

I hope it is nothing serious and will keep Hope and your family in my prayers for the days to come. The blisters you mentioned reminded me of another blog I follow: www.patriceandmattwilliams.blogspot.com Their son has a rare skin condition that causes his skin to blister when friction happens. I thought I would give you their blog in case you need a resource. Best wishes and I am happy that your new addion is here.
Many blessings,

PRAYERS KRISTY!!!! Oh how scary! I am allergic to all adhesives, and break out in hives and blisters when I have a band-aid, or any adhesive. I am also allergic to latex.

I PRAY that's all it is. I hope you get some solid answers my friend. In the meantime I will be on my knees in prayer for your sweet little girl.

Congratulations on your precious girl. I love her name. I will be hoping and praying for her health. Praying for peace for you and Howard during this time and for rest as your body is recovering while traveling.

I am not sure if you have heard of the Williams Family they lost a little boy Gabe at birth and have a four month old baby, Jonah. He has a skin disease (Epidermolysis Bullosa) that causes his skin to be extremely sensitive to touch. Not sure if there is any relation to Hope's skin issues but thought she may be a good resource and support for you. Their blog is http://patriceandmattwilliams.blogspot.com/

Hi Kristy,

I wanted to get in touch with you when I first heard of Hope, but didn't want to scare you or make you jump to any conclusions. However, reading through your comments, it looks like you must already know about little Jonah and Epidermolysis Bullosa.

First, it may not be this, so please don't let your mind go crazy worrying until you know. It could be many other things.

Second, if it is EB, don't let the doctors scare you into thinking it's a death sentence. There are many, many babies, kids, and ADULTS who live with EB every day. You CANNOT determine the severity of her case, just by looking at her the first few days of life. Special biopsies will have to be done and you probably won't know for sure her subtype for three weeks.

Thirdly, whether or not it's EB, I would love to be a support to you however I can. I have lost a son (Gabe - April 22, 2008) and am watching Jonah fight every day. Hope is a little fighter too, I'm sure!

Please let me know how I can help you. Email me at jonahawilliams@gmail.com if I can help you with anything.

I'm here for you.

(And I did not just find your blog yesterday when comments were left for me about Hope. Ironically enough, I found you somehow a long time ago when I was connected to you after the loss of Gabe. Funny how God does that, huh?)

Let me know how I can be Jesus' hands to you and your family.

In Him,
Patrice

Hey- I made my way here from "my charming kids". I am pregnant with my fourth child but am hoping it will be my second one to keep here. I have one son, also a Luke :-) who is 5. Our daughter, Sela, is in heaven. My third child was lost in a very early miscarriage but I'd already seen a heartbeat and was sold on him/her. I am halfway through with my fourth pregnancy with another son and can relate so much to what I have read here so far. You certainly have a gift for writing and I can relate to so much of your pain which I am not able to put into words quite so eloquently. You are in my prayers that your sweet baby girl is healthy and that you get things resolved and bring her home soon. May God wrap all of you in His loving arms. Praying in GA, Holly

Kristy, I was going to point you to my niece Patrice's blog, and then I saw so many comments left by others about it. And then I saw that Patrice herself left you a comment, so I see that you have it covered! When she offered you support and prayer, she meant it. You can count on her to help you through this, as she has accepted the support of others through their journeys with their sons Gabe and Jonah. She is anxious to pass along the same kind of support she's been so fortunate to have benefited from to others, so please get in touch with her if and when you feel ready! And please call on ANY of us for prayer and anything else that you need. The blogging community -- authors and readers alike -- is an amazing thing. I have been blessed through it, as well, as we've traveled this long road with Matt and Patrice. Our prayers are with you!

Well, I heard about your blog/story from Stellan's mom's twittering and thought I would check your comments to see if anyone had mentioned Jonah's mom's blog and EB... I quickly noticed that about every other comment on this post directs you to Jonah's mother's wonderful blog...

You should definitely make the time to read about Jonah and Gabe!!!

Praying for your sweet family and precious new baby girl... and for physical healing for you as well...

Oh Hope is a beautiful little baby girl! My mother in law is actually allergic to adhesive, so it may be that, which isn't a major thing. Hopefully all goes well! My best wishes for your family!
